i turned eighteen with the best kind of friends a girl could have. and because, as karmun puts it, i'm "worth more than one day", i had a fabulous night of celebrations.
on 5th September at 1910, we cut my birthday cake discreetly in the cinema after karmun and yujin sung me a birthday song, and dug into it while watching The Devil Wears Prada, which, incidentally is a movie that we completely enjoyed. quite original storyline, good cast, very entertaining dialogue, and of course, as everyone will say, beautiful clothes. next up- john tucker must die!
i'm glad i didn't spend my day brooding over insincere wishes or even waiting for certain sms-es, but i do feel silly about even daring to feel unloved in the morning and forcing myself to study in the reading room thinking i'd be mature enough to "study now, celebrate later" (meaning post-prelims); then feeling so upset i wanted to leave the reading room to go and celebrate my birthday by myself. but i guess i'm still entitled to one last childish outburst before i fully turn eighteen la huh. suddenly, that brings back embarassing recounts of a certain sesame & muntou story when i was 16. but let's not hang that all out for public viewing pleasure.
i'll let a few photos do the talking.
at the movies: my world-class chocolate fudge cake 100% hand-baked by chef sum:

(chef says: "with chocolate rice at the side!")
still in the cinema: my favourite chef and grandma jung.

tttbs. (exclusive acronym)

118 candles; once eighteen.

i snuck out of the house after midnight for this, a (quite unpalatable) quasi-vegemite sandwish, and to watch train-man on a laptop with creepy crawlies all around me. can i ask for a more original round-off to my 18th celebrations?
thank you to all those who remembered;
all other memories will be firmly placed with me.
p/s. i'll be away for some time.

JILL
REALLY REALLY HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT BIRTHDAY haha it was a really small celebration (sorry it wasn't as fun and large and glitzy and overthetop as an 18th birthday warrants!)but we do love you and hope you were happy!
haha ehhh don't forget heimun helped me bake it; i'm not that competent in the kitchen lah :D
the movie was lovely, but the company was better (: we didn't get to talk much, so catch up after prelims, yeah?! have a great year ahead, now that you've joined the league of 18year olds!!! all grown up.. (:
XOXO!
HAHAHA (in reference to your mention about the "sesame and muntou" saga.) what can i say, we were all YOUNG (and immature and childish and silly) once :D
Oh Jill, that's gorgeous... I think that's the best birthday celebration any girl can ask for :)
jill >> alicia
you're right alicia, it was a fantastic 18th i had :)
by the way, i'm sorry i haven't been leaving tags at your blog, but i read it whenever i'm online, along with a few of my other regular reads. i have been following the d----- saga, and i'm sorry to know how things turned out, but these are the sort of things that make one grow up.
just want to say i can really empathise, and that with each fall we grow stronger, and braver.
*pats.

i've been learning a few cantonese phrases lately, can't wait to show them off to you :D
and THANK YOU for the very nice letter, it's now stuck proudly to the wall in front of my study desk.
i had a really memorable eighteenth, perhaps not large and glitzy, but definitely FUN and i definitely felt very loved :D:D
hang in there for prelims, we''ll stick it out together.
(p/s. i admire your coolheadedness)

Hey!!
These days must be hard for you, but yah, hang on. Dont be daunted by these tests because they are just tiny little stepping stones to the big one ahead. And always believe in youself, because deep within yourself is a small, innocent-looking orb of potential that's waiting to be unleashed. I'll always be there for you. =)
